Aa is for Ant

BIBLE VERSE AND SONG:

Proverbs 6:6 (sung to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb")

Go to the ant, you sluggard,

Consider her ways

And be wise

Stay busy for God

Says Proverbs 6:6

ANT FARM & TUTORIAL :

We made our ant farm and the ants have been busy working! 

To make one too you will need:

*2 jars - 1 should fit nicely inside of the other with space to fill with dirt.  (you may also find that a soda can works well as the inside container)

*Cheesecloth

*Rubber Band

*Dirt

*Ants

*Sugar water

*Food for ants (watermelon, orange, etc.)

Cap one jar and place it inside of the other.

Fill with dirt, preferably from the location of the ants.

Add your ants (we laid out a piece of watermelon as bait)

Add some sugar water a few drops at a time (you do not want to drown your ants)

Top with some fruit scraps

Cover with cheesecloth using a rubber band.

Observe!

Make-It-Monday: Let Freedom Ring Dress

You know our girls are sick when they fall asleep anywhere other than their bed. 

"M" and "Boo" have both been running fevers since yesterday afternoon.  "M" seems to just be sleeping it off; "Boo" is a bit more cranky but she was content sitting on my lap earlier while I caught up on some blogs.  I came across this really cute "Let Freedom Ring" dress on Oh So Happy Together and knew just what I was going to do once the girlies went to bed tonight. 

Here is my "Let Freedom Ring" creation:

HAPPY SEWING!

Weekends are for being spoiled by the Grandparents (and Great-Grandparents!)

What a blessing for our children to know and love their grandparents and great-grandparents.  We enjoyed a wonderful (although too short) visit!  "Boo" opened some 1st birthday presents.

"M" served tea to the great-grandparents then crawled up in the doggies bed for a pretend nap. 

The Road Less Traveled

We spent the last few days visiting our Christian Agrarian friends on their new homestead. 

3 adults.  6 children. 

No TV.  No cell phones.  No electricity.  No lights.  No air conditioning.  No flushing toilet.  Very few mondern "conveniences". 

There was peace.  There was tranquility.  There was trust in the Sovereignty of God for ALL things.  There was loving and encouraging one another. 

It was a time of reflection, renewal, and refreshment. 

What a blessing!!!

Tot School Tuesday - BUGS!

I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee...

Oh what fun we had this week discovering bugs!!! 

PRINTABLES:

We used 1+1+1=1's Pretty Bugs Preschool Pack

"Boo" (now 1 year) is starting to join in more on our tot school fun.  This was her first time coloring and it is now one of her favorite activities.

CRAFTS:

"M" and I painted some bugs using our hands and fingers.

NATURE:

We went on a bug hunt in our yard.  We found spiders, crickets, ants, bees,  flies, beetles, and caterpillars (which were our favorite!).

BOOKS:

There are some really fun Bug books out there.  We came home with these from our local library:

Make-it-Monday: Stuffed Turtle Toy

(Yes, I am aware that it is no longer Monday, but sometimes days just do not go exactly as planned and children do not get to bed on time.  I finished this project just a little too late last night and sleep seemed way more important than posting this while it was still Monday!)

On Friday I mentioned my friend's blog: Just a Little Something Betsy.  Not sure if any of you checked out her blog, but on it she has this adorable Stuffed Turtle.  I just love it when you can make projects out of scraps, and Betsy said it took about 2 hours (which is all the spare time I have in a day - if that!).  I chose my material and cut out the pattern whenever I had a few spare moments during the day.  Once the kids FINALLY went to bed, I started sewing.  It is definitely very easy to make.  I did finish it in under two hours, and I even learned how to do a blind stitch (I have always just whip stiched, but this is definitely a much nicer finish!!!). 

So, here's my little turtle creation:
